This particular piece had an agonizingly long ugly phase. I had been looking at a lot of Mike Devries work so I was really eager to try and imitate his style in this piece. I'll admit it's not as good as his work, but its definitely a mile stone for me. It was the collector's first piece and he's pleased as punch with it.

After a second touchup session (clean up the tribal, even out the blues, and adding some light shading) I'm going to to submit this to a magazine.

By the way, if you tattoo and you're not familiar with Mike DeVries, you really should be. A couple of guys from my shop and I are saving our money to get some work by him when he comes to Tucson. He's great with color portraits and animals. See for yourself [link]
